13th of this month was my last sessional viva, seniors & juniors had exams that day so bus came early to pick us. Now, the breakfast came late that morning and that is why I kept my mug near the kitchen sink saying that I’ll collect it in the evening.
The evening came and I went to kitchen to get my dose of evening chai, but was surprised to not find my mug there. Now this mug is special. Its a verse mug that uncle bought when he visited Mumbai few years back.
Asked the maid about it and she said that she saw the mug earlier but she didn’t knew who nicked it from the kitchen. Asked a couple of juniors about it and got the same reply. I had a bad experience of asking about stolen stuff @ hostel, so thought of letting it go..
The maid used to ask me about it everyday and I used to say I wonder who stole it.. who would want a verse mug except me and Rajni. Rajni is not one of the girls who would steal and when this incident took place she wasn’t even at hostel.
The maid would look for it at every room while she cleaned them everyday though..
One day a thought came into my mind that someone must have dropped it and cos its broken down am unable to find it.
Then mysteriously just as it was stolen, it found its way back to me. Found it at the place where I had kept it, one week later though… Now as you can see from the photo, someone used it for making curd/ drinking milk.
When I showed this to the maid, she asked me to show the backside of the mug and instantly realised seeing it at a juniors room.
So I carried out a “Who stole my mug” interrogation that evening and that very gal said, Sorry mam, I didn’t knew it was your mug! ha.. that must have been a joke. I was very much pissed off earlier but then dunno what came into me and I asked her if she needed a mug (I always have some in spare as am a chai addict). She was and so I gifted a mug to her
Have now started calling it as prodigal mug
Cos it was “once lost, but now is found”
